How to download and install WordPress?
Step 1: Download WordPress from https://wordpress.org/download/ and unzip the package if you do not have it already done.
Step 2: Build a database that will be used by WordPress on the web server. With the database, also specify a MySQL user with data access and modification privileges.
Step 3: You can rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php and edit the file followed by adding your database information.
Step 4: The next step is to upload the WordPress file to the web server. There are two ways to do so:
1. If you wish to integrate the WordPress to the root of your domain, you need to move the entire WordPress directory(unzipped) to the root directory of the web server.
2. Another way to install WordPress is by keeping the WordPress in its own subdirectory on the website. You will now be required to create a blog directory on the server and move the content of the WordPress package to the server directory using FTP.
Step 5: Now you can run the WordPress installation script by accessing the URL on the web browser. The URL that you will feed into the browser will be the same where you uploaded the WP files.
Depending on the directory where you have installed the WordPress, the URL changes.
- If you have installed WordPress in the root directory of the web server, the URL will be http://example.com/.
- If the WordPress has been installed in the subdirectory named XYZ, the URL will be http://example.com/XYZ/.
If you have completed the process, WordPress would be installed by now. If you still have queries, you can visit http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress.
